The Excel Group of Schools celebrated the vibrant and culturally significant festival of Pongal over two days, marking it with enthusiasm, tradition, and fun-filled activities.

Day 1: Celebrations by KG to Grade 3 Students

On January 10, 2025, the students from KG of Excel Central School and KG to Grade 3 of Excel Global School kick-started the Pongal festivities. The young children, dressed in beautiful traditional attire, were a delightful sight to behold. The day began with the kids enthusiastically creating colorful kolam (rangoli) under the guidance of their teachers. The highlight of the day was the preparation of Pongal by the teachers, which was later shared with the students, creating a warm and joyous atmosphere.

Day 2: Celebrations by Grade 4 to 12 Students

On January 13, 2025, it was the turn of the older students to take part in the festivities. The students from Grades 4 to 12 of Excel Global School and Grades 1 to 12 of Excel Central School came together to celebrate. The event commenced with a soulful prayer song, followed by a vibrant welcome dance and a heartfelt welcome address.

Our esteemed Managing Director, Mrs. Brindha Sreekumar, addressed the gathering, sharing her thoughts on the significance of the festival. This was followed by an inspiring Chief Guest address by Dr. N. Richard Kennady, Professor (Horticulture) at the Agricultural College and Research Institute, Tamil Nadu Agricultural University. Dr. Kennady spoke about the importance of agriculture and the essence of Pongal as a harvest festival.

Honoring Farmers and Cultural Programs

A special highlight of the day was the honoring of prestigious farmers by the students from various grades, showcasing respect and gratitude for their contributions to society. The celebration continued with various cultural programs, including traditional dances and songs that added to the festive spirit.

Awards and Organic Auction

To encourage active participation, Pongal awards were given to the best classes that showcased exceptional preparation for the celebration. Adding an eco-friendly twist to the event, the students brought various organic products, which were sold through an engaging auction. This initiative not only promoted sustainable practices but also added a unique touch to the celebration.

The two-day celebration ended on a sweet note, leaving everyone with cherished Pongal memories and a deeper appreciation for the rich cultural heritage of Tamil Nadu.
